Makeup or no makeup?

Today at work, my co-workers and I were talking about makeup and how much is used on a daily basis. Keep in mind, all of my co-workers are women so it is a bit strange sometimes. Now, all of my co-workers wear makeup, whereas I don’t wear makeup at all. A couple of co-workers just wear some mascara, eyeliner, and some lip balm; and a few others who cake on the makeup. I stand out like a sore thumb in the group of women that I work with.

Now, I’m not against makeup. Not at all. I’m definitely not lazy at all. It’s just that, I’m not a complete girly girl. If I get dressed up for a wedding or some party, then I would throw on a dress, play with my curls just a little bit and apply lotion and lip balm to my face, then out the door I go. I’ve decided to just highlight my natural dark features in a healthier way, without applying a lot of chemicals to my face. I’m also the type of woman who doesn’t take an hour to get ready for work or any other event. At the most, 10 minutes is how long it takes for me to get ready.

Now, I know that every woman is different when it comes to this, but I still don’t know why everyone applies a ton of makeup onto their face. I’m not telling you to stop rummaging through your makeup bag and putting on the makeup. What I am trying to understand is, why do you wear makeup? Is it to highlight your features or to cover up blemishes? I’m curious.
