The Tale of Cleopatra and Marc Antony (Poem)

The lover has passed,
leaving her majesty all alone.
She fumes in anger,
as she sits upon her throne.
The only subject who has her attention,
is her son who craves complete affection.
Day after day,
night after night;
the place in her bed,
is empty just like part of her heart.

One day,
a warrior came back into her life.
A man she knew once before,
when her lover was alive.
In front of her majesty,
this majestic man stood before her.
His tall stature,
His brown eyes,
brought women to their knees.
This happened to her majesty,
but only internally.
One look upon this mighty soldier,
and she fell in love.
She wished to conquer his heart,
and he wished to do the same.

She reigned over Egypt,
she conquered the soldier’s heart.
But in this tale,
it starts with a sad ending,
it ends with it as well.

An Herbalist Advice: Berberis Aquifolium

Everyone around the world deals with ear infections, no matter how young or old a person may be. Ear infections are one of those things that you cannot escape, even if you tried with all of your might. When a person obtains an ear infection, it sends the rest of your body into overdrive giving your entire body a hot exterior as well an interior. The most common way of getting an ear infection, is by swimming either in a chlorine filled pool or even a lake or ocean. Objects will somehow make their way into the ear canal and create an infection, which in turn makes you sick. Although you may run off to your primary physician to cure this problem, there is a healthier alternative way of healing an ear infection.

Berberis Aquifolium, also known as Oregon Graperoot, is one of the most sought out herbs to use to heal an ear infection. The reason for this is due to the fact that the Berberis Aquifolium acts as a natural antibiotic. The studies have shown that the berberine kills many types of bacteria that are all around us, including those that inhabit the water. Studies also show that if you cannot get a hold of this herb you can use other berberine containing substitutes such as goldenseal (Hydrastis Canadensis), barberry (Berberis vulgaris), or gold thread (Coptis species). The typical dosage of this herb, Berberis Aquifolium, is 1 teaspoon of tincture in water three times per day; or up to six 500 to 600 milligram capsules per day. However, you may proceed with caution with this herb. If you are pregnant, please do not use this herb.

Everything happens for a reason. This is one of the things that I’ve always believed, even as a child I thought this way. For me, I see it as if the universe and God (I’m spiritual, but do believe in God) who creates such trivialities for each person to face, who creates such paths that each person has to take in order to not only figure themselves out, but also to figure out the world and those who inhabit it. We face heartbreak, loss, love, prosperity, poverty. It truly is inevitable. In all honesty, life is not definite only death is.

When you look back on your past, what is it that you see? Do you see the heartbreaks that you endured? Do you see the rise and fall of your rollercoaster life? If yes, then congratulations, you are human. All humans endure these trivial issues, all humans face feeling lost and finally finding themselves in the mist of a great battle that is fighting in their hearts and minds. Not one person can truly say that they have it all figured out. I don’t even have it figured out. I do not know what truly lies in store for me in the future, I do not know what will become of me when I have become thirty, fifty, or eighty years old. And neither do you. You may fantasize about what you will have accomplished in the next ten, thirty or fifty years, but in truth you do not know. The universe and God (s) (if you believe in them) create obstacles, create paths, create people that are meant for you and you alone. You may go get your future read from a fortune teller, tarot cards or any other means, but you will only get glimpses, and in between those glimpses you cannot fill in those blank spaces. You can say that a specific thing will happen, but that is your imagination at play unless you possess the gift of sight and can see into the future. You will have plenty of breakups until you meet the one you will end up with forever; you will suffer great loss of friends, relatives and great loves; you will face obstacles every day, every month and every year to better yourself for not only now, but also for the future. Life is mysterious, and it’s best to keep it that way. And anything that comes your way, I know that you will face it head on, striking it down like an ax that hits a tree. Yes, these trivialities that you face right now may seem like it is the end of the world, but I can guarantee you that it is not. You are strong, you are fierce, you are compassionate and you can do anything and face anything that the universe throws at you. It is natural to feel as though you’ve felt defeated, but trust me when I say this, do not get defeated. Fight back with full force, face the universe head on and overcome any obstacle and any triviality that may come your way. Everyone faces moments when they feel like they cannot go on, they feel like they wish that they hadn’t had to go through some sort of torture, but then once they’ve hit that light that is at the end of the tunnel, that is when they realize that everything does happen for a reason and that reason is the make you a stronger, compassionate person who doesn’t back down no matter what is thrown at him or her.

Safest Place (Poem)

These walls that surrounds us,
holds secrets and lies.
None of us pay attention to them,
we just continue to pile more inside.
A single drop of a pin,
and the walls will know.
The smallest sound,
will create a new rumor for others to hear.
We close our mouths,
We become deaf to those around.
The only place the walls cannot see or hear from,
Is our mind.

An Herbalist Advice: Catalan Roots Tea

Ladies, it is inevitable, when we are having our “monthly friend” we tend to have symptoms that seem to just not go away. Thankfully there is a tea that is specifically for those pesky premenstrual symptoms. I like to call this tea, “Catalan Roots”, this is because that it smells aromatic, delicious, and you feel like you are in the Catalan region of Spain.

Catalan Roots Tea

1 teaspoon vitex berries
1 teaspoon wild yam root
1/2 teaspoon burdock root
1/2 teaspoon dandelion root
1/2 teaspoon feverfew leaf
1 teaspoon orange peel, licorice root, or stevia (optional)
4 cups water

Combine all of the herbs with the water. Bring to a boil, then turn off the heat and let it steep for 20 to 25 minutes. Strain out the herbs. Drink at least 2 cups daily as needed.

Just Breathe

Right now, you are overwhelmed, your mind is racing a million times faster than usual; keeping you up at night and not letting you get the sleep that you desperately need. You don’t know what to do, you don’t know how to stop your mind racing, you don’t know how to make your body stop and just relax. You are giving into the 9 to 5 work world, and occasionally working the weekends, having the inability to spend time with your significant other, your kids, your friends.

When you are not taking a breather for yourself, you are slowly killing yourself and you just don’t know it. You do not realize that your heart is going faster than normal, which will lead you going to the hospital. You do not realize that your mind is not able to take a break, if your mind is not having that much needed break you will end up having a mental breakdown, which is a horrible thing to go through. Yes, we live in this crazy society that says that we must work to provide for ourselves, for our family, and for others around the world. Except there is one major problem with that, if you give into the work world completely then you have lost yourself and lost the control over your body, mind and soul. A person who does not take a moment for themselves is slowly hurting themselves without knowing it.

In order to be sane, in order to gain clarity and still be able to do all of the things that must be done is to stop. Stop what you are doing. Stop for thirty minutes to an hour, twice a week and just breathe. Breathe in the clean air. Breathe in the incense that is burning during your meditation. Just breathe. It will soothe not only your body, but it will also soothe your mind and soul. That is what you need. That is what your mind craves. That is what your soul wants. That is what your body needs. You can find easy soothing ways to just breathe and get away from everything. You can bake in the kitchen, meditate, garden, go for a run or swim. Anything that can get you away from the work world and away from technology is the best way to just breathe and gain control over yourself.

Town of my Dreams (Poem)

A sweet place,
A place that is somewhat unknown.
A place that shines bright,
Yet displays a beautiful moon in the dead of night.
Brick walls and endless orange trees,
the endless red rooftops that can be seen for miles.
Such a place plagues my dreams,
Such a place I crave to live in.

The scent of grapes flow from the vineyard,
The creative souls flow inside this unknown town.
My heart aches,
My soul yearns for this place.
My mind wishes to explore,
to be inspired by this muse.
One day, this town will be my hometown.
One day,
I will feel at home.
