An Herbalist Advice: Berberis Aquifolium

Everyone around the world deals with ear infections, no matter how young or old a person may be. Ear infections are one of those things that you cannot escape, even if you tried with all of your might. When a person obtains an ear infection, it sends the rest of your body into overdrive giving your entire body a hot exterior as well an interior. The most common way of getting an ear infection, is by swimming either in a chlorine filled pool or even a lake or ocean. Objects will somehow make their way into the ear canal and create an infection, which in turn makes you sick. Although you may run off to your primary physician to cure this problem, there is a healthier alternative way of healing an ear infection.

Berberis Aquifolium, also known as Oregon Graperoot, is one of the most sought out herbs to use to heal an ear infection. The reason for this is due to the fact that the Berberis Aquifolium acts as a natural antibiotic. The studies have shown that the berberine kills many types of bacteria that are all around us, including those that inhabit the water. Studies also show that if you cannot get a hold of this herb you can use other berberine containing substitutes such as goldenseal (Hydrastis Canadensis), barberry (Berberis vulgaris), or gold thread (Coptis species). The typical dosage of this herb, Berberis Aquifolium, is 1 teaspoon of tincture in water three times per day; or up to six 500 to 600 milligram capsules per day. However, you may proceed with caution with this herb. If you are pregnant, please do not use this herb.
