An Herbalist Advice: Tilia Europea

image

Everyone deals with stress at some point in their lives, whether it be from work, school or even from their personal lives. Stress tends to be a part of our life no matter what, but thankfully there are safe holistic ways of getting rid of the stress.
Tilia europea, also known as Linden, is a flower that grows on a specific type of tree. The flowers of this tree have been used for their mild sedative, antispasmodic, and even their pain relieving properties throughout history. Nowadays, the modern herbalists, such as myself, use infusions internally or in warm baths to reduce the nervousness and the stress levels of a person. The typical dosage as a tea is two to three cups of tea per day (you will steep one teaspoon of dried flowers in one cup of hot water for ten to twelve minutes); or one teaspoon of tincture in water three or four times per day. Or you can add four cups of tea to a warm bath, all you have to do is use the amount of four cups of tea and infuse it with the hot water that is in the bathtub. This will relax your muscles and get rid of the stress as you soak in the tub.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness. Forgiveness is one of the main things a person must do in order to finally be content, to be able to feel lifted, to be able to live their lives without fearing judgment not only from others but from themselves. It can be hard. Forgiving someone who has wronged you, who has hurt you in the most vile way possible can be the most hardest thing in the word. You fear that if you do forgive someone, you will be seen as in denial, weak and incompetent. But alas, you will not be seen as weak, you will be seen as a strong person who has decided to not have hate harbor your heart, mind and soul.

Harboring hate inside ones soul is a nuisance, it is not something that should be there. Love, gentleness, peace; those are things that should be residing in your heart, mind and soul. They are the ones that make you strong. They are the ones that give you the ability to trudge forward and be the person you are meant to be. Yes, there are people who have wronged you. Yes, there are people who have hurt you in some unmentionable ways. But to harbor such hate for them, is to harbor hate for yourself. You may feel like you could never forgive such vile acts, but you are not one to judge their actions. They are to be judged by their actions by whomever they believe in, whether it be God, Allah, Buddha, or any other spiritual leader. It is your duty to not judge, but to forgive. You can be weary all you want, be on your guard, as you should be. But forgiveness is what will set you free from hurting yourself internally and externally. For if you harbor such an emotion, you will be unable to love yourself, you will be unable to heal properly. Hate and judgment are two emotions that are natural inside a person’s mind and heart, because they are emotions that all feel. Yet, if you truly think about it. Once you have decided to forgive them, once you have decided to not pass judgment on them, you will be free. They will receive their judgment from their deities and receive whatever punishment awaits them in whatever spiritual realm they believe in. As I said before, it is not your place to harbor hate, anger or judgment in your heart, mind or soul. It is your place to harbor compassion, strength, and generosity in your heart.

It will be hard to forgive those who have wronged you, but slowly work on it. For the longest time I was angry for those who had wronged me, who had hurt me, who had cheated. But then, one day, I began to forgive them, one by one. I knew in my heart that for me to harbor such a raw, powerful, and terrifying emotion, it would make me bitter and I would someday turn against all those who I had wished to help and love. Forgiving is the first step to healing, healing the problem at hand, healing the past, and overall healing you.

Healing Your Temple

image

This body that we reside in is our temple. It is a temple where our heart, mind and soul can stay safe and grow all at the same time. That being said, we should not take our body for granted. We should be nourishing it, engage in exercise and any other form of wellness on a daily basis. Not only that, we should be showing our body love and kindness. If we are cruel and try to destroy our body with outrageous fad diets, drugs and alcohol; then we are harming our soul, mind and heart as well. We want to protect our well being, not kill it.

In order to create a healthy body and have a positive outlook on ourselves, there are many things that we can do. One of the things we can do nutrition wise is to make sure we do not consume a whole lot of over processed foods. When we eat over processed foods, our body is letting toxins enter our body and those toxins start to destroy the nutrients that we so desperately need. Instead of eating the over processed foods, what we can do is eat healthier more organic foods. Instead of relying on your grocery store where everything is over processed, you can go to your local farmer’s market and obtain healthier, more sustainable products that are actually good for your body. Fresh vegetables, fruits or even homemade baked breads are far healthier than the products that you get at your grocery store where they put chemicals into each product. Instead of drowning ourselves in alcohol, drink more water and teas to stay hydrated.

Another way to heal your body, get involved in some sort of exercise everyday. It can be yoga, cycling, swimming, jogging, whatever you are into you should get into it daily. For myself, I enjoy doing yoga and jogging; on the weekends, I go out for long walks or hikes to reconnect with myself and to enjoy nature. I stay active and I am able to heal my body while doing the activities that I love. Besides getting active with an exercise, slowly make your way into meditating. Meditation heals your soul, aligns your chakras, heals your mind and gives you the ability to clear out all of the negative toxins and energy out of your body while replacing it with positive energy. Meditating at least two to three times a week is good for the body, good for the mind, good for the heart and definitely good for the soul.

Taking care of our bodies is something that we should focus on. Especially when you want to live a long life and be able to do all the things you wish to do. Not only that, taking care of this body that we have been given is a duty to ourselves. We must take care of ourselves. We must love ourselves. We must cherish our body, mind, heart and soul.

Meditating to Heal

image

Meditation is a beautiful thing. It helps heal you from the inside of your body to the outside. It releases all of the negative toxins out of your body and replaces it with brand new positive energy. On top of that, your soul feels rejuvenated and your body feels lighter, as if you are walking on air. Besides all of this, meditation awakens you. It awakens your soul, your mind and your heart. You are able to find your true self. You are able to find your true path. You are able to finally be you in this crazy messed up world. Personally, I love meditating. I practice it everyday. For me, I am able to stay sane. For me, I am able to allow my creativity flow out of me and create who I am to become.

That is what meditation is. It brings you to your divine self. No I’m not talking about a God(s). I’m talking about the divine self that is within you. The inner self that is holding large amounts of knowledge, compassion, enlightenment. Everyone has a divine self. But only a few have ever decided to venture to that part of themselves to figure out what they are capable of, what they are to become, to find out what their purpose is. That is where meditation comes in. Meditation helps the person, more specifically the soul, to venture deep inside their minds, heart and inner worlds to figure out everything about themselves. On top of that, meditation also helps a soul seek the enlightenment that it so desperately wishes to achieve, I know this due to the fact that I have always sought out enlightenment. It is an unusual path, but it truly is rather invigorating and one I highly recommend, if  and only if it is part of the path that is laid out for you. When I speak of paths, I speak of the path that the Universe has created for you. Not a religion nor a God that has created for you, but the Universe. The Universe has held the paths of every human since the dawn of time. It has created the small paths that some are meant to take since for some unknown reason they won’t live as long, and the Universe has created the longer paths for those who will be around for some time. Each person is unique and the Universe knows of this. I know, it sounds funny. Especially to those who follow a specific religion. But for me, it is not unusual. Due to the fact that I am part Native American and Druid, and we believe in the Universe and believe in the fact that the Universe has more control over the paths that are presented to us. When a person meditates, the Universe is able to show that person through the meditation in some way where they are going and who they are going to become. Meditation is such a beautiful thing, and to be able to connect with the Universe in a meditation session is truly remarkable.

At the young age of twelve, I began to meditate. I always enjoyed meditating before bed because it would help me sleep better. But over the years, I have expanded my knowledge and have been able to create my own meditation world (s), and have been able to control the area that I want to go to in my meditation state. I’ve gone deep into the oceans, deep into the forests where I have seen things that only you can see in your imagination or read in a book, and I have seen nothing but a pure white crystal mountain where other souls like mine retreated to, to meditate together.

With all of this, I have decided that I wanted to teach others how to meditate. To teach how to clean out the negative energies and bring in positive energies. To teach how to find yourself, to find out who you are meant to be, and to bring them closer with themselves, the inner divine self and with the Universe.

Gaia

image

She is the one who nourishes our body,
She is the one who breathes life into our souls.
She is the one who we run away to,
when we wish to be alone.
She is the chirping of the bird,
She is the tune that whistles in the wind.
She is the mother of us all,
She is the protector of us all.
She rages into storms when we dishonor her,
She greets us with love on bright sunny days.
But in the end it is all the same,
She is the one that we come home to when we pass on.
– Me (She Is)

Mother nature, Gaia, Flidais; she goes by these names and more. This earth that we live on here and now, provides us with absolute love and protection, provides us with nourishment and shelter. This is the one place that we are able to only live on at this very moment, yet most of this world does not care. Most of the population does not care if they throw out their wrappers and other trash onto the side of the road. They do not care that they are destroying this beloved earth and the other inhabitants. They do not care that this beloved earth is withering away due to everyone wanting to strip down every tree to build some new pathetic shopping center. They do not care at all. But would they care if they knew all that this planet does for us?

Mother earth, or Gaia as I like to call her, provides us with oxygen from the trees that fill the national parks, forests, mountains. She provides with water from the streams, river beds, lakes and oceans. She provides us with shelter with already nature made areas such as caves, trees that are large enough to house a small family, and inside mountains. She protects us from disasters that come our way. When the oceans go into full force and the plate tectonics shift and collapse creating massive tsunami’s, she has shelter for us high in the trees or even far away where the water cannot reach; sadly sometimes there are those who do not make it. She has provided us with brothers and sisters from different species, man’s best friend for example or even a panda bear who wishes to give us a hug. When we sit on the ground, with the soft dirt underneath us, we can look up into the sky and see father sky and the millions of stars shining so brightly. Shining brightly for Gaia and all of her children. Shining to show their appreciation for what she holds, for what she takes care of. Do you see now? Do you see how much she does so much for us and I can guarantee that you probably didn’t even take any of this into consideration.

The air has become stiff from all of the pollution that has been created by mankind, the birds fly far away from us due to the fact that each major city is destroying not only the sky but the earth along with it, and there are very few trees left in the major cities to help release enough oxygen for all of us. The highways, fields, oceans and other areas of the world are becoming polluted by trash that people throw out of the car as they are moving. They throw their cigarette butts out the window, igniting fires and burning up major areas that need to be protected. Right now, as you are reading this article, our mother earth is in terrible danger from the damage that mankind has been afflicting on her since man decided to take over this planet. She is withering away and there are a lot of people who do not care. They do not care that their beloved home planet is withering away and someday soon she will not be able to take care of us anymore. And when that day comes, everyone will either have forgotten and do not give a rats a**, or they will begin to question how did it happen and they will think that they can revive her when it will actually be too late.
Thankfully, right now at this very moment, it is not too late. We can actually do something to make sure she does not deteriorate. Pick up all trash on the highways, in the streams, in the oceans. Clean out the oil from the ocean, and that is seeping into the lands where the animals roam. Grow more trees, so they can provide oxygen and revive this earth and bring it a new beginning. There is hope for this planet, but in order to make anything happen, we must all work together and make this earth healthier for generations to come. I would want all of my nieces, nephews, and future grandchildren and several generations of grandchildren to be able to live on a healthy planet where they can be happy and healthy themselves. Because Gaia has taken good care of them. And because we have taken good care of Gaia ourselves.

Deeper Than The Skin

image

Recently, I was going through articles of recommended books, and then I stumbled upon an article about a model named Ashley Graham and a dress she had worn to the Oscar’s. Ms. Graham is known as a “plus sized” model, personally I think she looks normal and looks absolutely gorgeous,  but that’s not the point of my article.

After reading the article about Ms. Graham, I noticed that there was more than a thousand comments on the article,  and my curiosity got the best of me. I went through pages and pages of these comments, and I was horrified. Almost every comment was bashing Ms. Graham, there were men, but predominantly more women were so critical of her and the dress she wore. One woman called her, “a fat disgusting pig”, another said that Ms. Graham needs to lose weight, and another said that “Ms. Graham needs to lose weight, even though she has a pretty face”. These comments made me turn so red and made me horrified.
Every once in a while, I did see either a man or woman who said that Ms. Graham looked stunning and was gorgeous. Which to them, I agree.

This right here, is why both women and men have body image issues. People are critical of one another. Why? Why should you judge another person’s outer appearance? You have no right to do so. Why do you care what another person wears? How much makeup a person does or does not wear, does not affect you in any way. If Ms. Graham is content with her body and is not afraid to wear what highlights her curves, why do you judge? I certainly don’t. What she wears does not affect me in any way. Personally, I couldn’t wear that dress, but that’s just I wouldn’t feel like myself in it. But for another human being to judge Ms. Graham on her body is absolutely insane. In a sense, if you do such a thing that is called bullying. And if you do it online, it’s considered cyber bullying.

Body image issues is one of the things that I’m very adamant about. I believe everyone is beautiful, and I mean everyone. You can be tall or short, thin or on the heavier side, pear shaped or straight up and down; you are beautiful. The skin that covers your entire body changes over time, you will not look like a twenty four year old when you are in your eighties. It’s just how everyone is. This society is completely and utterly divulged in vanity,  and worrying about what others look like. Forget all that nonsense and realize that beauty isn’t just what you see on the outside, it’s on the inside  (yes, it sounds cheesy, but it is true). True beauty is inside. It is in your heart, it is in your soul,  it is in your mind. That’s where true beauty lies.
