A Dream That Lies Next to Me (Poem)

A sudden movement from me could make the covers move an inch away from our bodies,
Leaving our skin defenseless against the cold morning breeze that seemed to squeeze through the cracks in the windowsill.
So I just lie here awake,
staring at her lie next to me.
Watching her chest rise with every breath she takes as she dreams.
This moment, this precious moment that I am honored to see,
has been a dream that I’ve always wanted to see.
Her hair in disarray,
her brown eyes covered by the covers,
and her smooth skin covered by the pajamas she wears every night,
this is a dream that most have only dreamt of,
but I get to live it every day of my life.
