Blooming Into Our True Characters

untitled

From the day we were born we were beginning our journey into our lives on this planet we call home, and throughout each phase of our journey we would hit some bumps in the road, at times they would have us take a detour for a brief period of time, or they would just block us until the road was prepared. These bumps in our journey prepares us and molds us into the characters that we are meant to be, into the people whom we are to become as we get older.

As children we are vulnerable and susceptible to becoming anyone’s clay to be shaped into whomever someone choses, yet as we get into our rebellious teen years (yes, everyone was rebellious to a point) we try to break free from that vulnerable clay and start to mold our own selves. Bit by bit we end up molding ourselves, with the helps of our influences and the Universe, into the people who we are meant to be, into the characters that we are meant to play on this grand stage we call life. Sometimes while we are attempting to mold ourselves we get caught up in the grander scheme of things, and try to mold ourselves into what the media and society tells us to look like, and for awhile we will attempt to do such a thing, then when wake up we realize that it was the stupidest thing to do. So we take ourselves out of the equation and begin to mold ourselves once more, successfully we become the masterpiece that we were meant to be.

However we are not complete, we take ourselves throw the mold into the burner and watch it immortalize us into imperfect perfect molds that we are proud of, and it is truly then when we realize that we have become the character that we were meant to play, the clay mold that took so long to become the object of attention has suddenly become human.

Why I’m a Feminist

2191807319e04577d9179921543fbbaa

I am a feminist because I want to end unrealistic expectations for both men and women, there should not be some expectation to look like someone else to feel appreciated, to feel loved, to feel like we belong in some sort of “group”, this is not high school where they are focused on cliques, this is the real world that we live in, no two people look alike.

I am a feminist because I am tired of hearing, “Cool story, now go make me a sandwich” or “Real men don’t cry”, because these stereotypes are harmful to everyone around the world. Real men do cry, they have emotions just like the rest of us. And no one is your personal maid or slave, they are not obligated to make you a ‘sandwich’, you can go make it yourself.

I am a feminist because I want to end this horrible rape culture that we live in. Both men and women get raped, it is a proven fact. The problem is that not everyone realizes that men are also the victims to such abuse just like any other woman out there who gets raped and abused, they are terrified just like everyone else who endures physical, emotional, and mental abuse. To say that they don’t, is just down right ignorant.

I am a feminist because I want to end gender roles. In the past, roles to each gender were assigned, for men, they had to play with trucks, play in the dirt, get “manly” jobs, for women, they were told to play with dolls and have an easy bake oven, while dressing up in dresses and looking pretty. Young girls are allowed to play with toy trucks, and young boys are allowed to play with dolls that they find fun. There should be no roles assigned to anyone. If you like something, then by all means, do that hobby or get that outfit, just be you. I know several women who are welders, and they are badasses at their jobs, proving that they can do anything. I know a man who is a manicurist and he is phenomenal at his job, he chose that job because he loves it, he isn’t at a job that doesn’t love.

I am a feminist because I am sick and tired of people judging women based on their clothing, yet they gawk at a woman who wears a mini skirt and tank top, then catcall her. One, women are not objects to stare at, they are hardworking, intelligent, compassionate people, just like you. They are not meant to be stared down and made to feel inferior. Second, you have no say over what a woman wears, she wears what she wants to wear. It is her body, and you have no say over what she wears on her body. If she wants to wear a hijab, don’t you dare try to take it off to offend her. If she wants to wear a mini skirt, then let her wear that mini skirt. She wears articles of clothing because she is drawn to them and likes them. Same goes for men as well, if a man wants to wear a pink shirt, then don’t criticize him for it. If a man wears his pants saggy, let him, it is his body and he can wear whatever he wants just like women can.

I am a feminist because I am sick and tired of people comparing everyone to others and degrading others. Stop with the signs and memes that roam around Pinterest, Google, and other parts of the internet that say, “In a World of Kardashians, be a …..”.  Honestly, I don’t know much about the Kardashians, but to degrade them like that is wrong on many levels, you may not agree with their lifestyle, fashion sense, or moral compass, however you shouldn’t be degrading them and trying to raise another person up. Degrading others to feel better about yourself is just plain wrong and it shouldn’t be happening whatsoever. Comparing one person to another also needs to be put to an end, due to the fact that no two people are alike, it is nearly impossible, even twins are not alike on many levels.

I am a feminist because I believe in equal pay between men and women, based on education and experience, not based on what is between your legs. It shouldn’t matter if you are a man or a woman, it should matter on your education and experience. If a man and a woman both have a bachelor’s degree and also have ten years of experience, then they should get paid equally. Currently, women get paid $.75 to a man who gets paid $1.00.

I am a feminist because my feminine needs are not a luxury. Every woman since the dawn of time has had their premenstrual cycles, and they bleed for 5 to 7 days every 28 days. Tampons, pads, cups, whatever else is used out there, is viewed as a luxury. It is not a luxury. Stop hiking the percentage price to %40 tax.

I am a feminist because I want to protect all of those who are being forced to become child’s brides as 10 years old. I don’t believe in becoming a bride at such a young age. Back in the 1500’s men and women were betrothed at the age of birth, and were made to get married at once they were to be perceived as a man or woman. We live in the 21st century, and things need to change today.

This is just the icing on the cake as to why I am a feminist. This is extremely important to me, and should be important to everyone around the world. Why are you a feminist?

Those we Admire

bf5e8aa402c171f8844465c7a44a7341

Some months ago I wrote about everyone having role models, those that we look up to in our everyday lives. And yes, it is true, we all have role models, those are the ones that we admire, the ones we wish to be like, and the ones who shape us to be who we are meant to be in our later years in life.

For the most part, one person might say that their mom or dad are their role models, another might point out a teacher or colleague, it doesn’t matter who it might be, it is just a well known fact that we all have role models.

Months ago, I had pointed out that my mother and my granny were my biggest role models, they are type of women that are strong, kind hearted, intelligent, and just two of the most amazing women in the world. Sadly though, my granny passed away when I was about to be 8 years old, however, she influenced me greatly in my early years, and I am honored by that. Another person I had mentioned was Laki Penan, a man who has been gone for nearly seventeen years after he disappeared while helping out a local tribe in Malaysia. He instilled the sense of humanity in me, his selflessness that he portrayed showed me that there are others out there that need help and need us all to help them.

One person that I failed to mention was a man by the name of  Ryōkan, a Zen Buddhist monk who lived most of his life as a hermit. He was known for his beautiful poetry and also for his calligraphy. Ryōkan, in many ways, instilled the lifestyle of Zen into my life, influenced my own sense of style of writing poetry, and showed me that being a bit of a hermit is not a bad thing. This man has influenced me greatly, with his quirky, eccentric way of life and poetry, and because of him, I’ve been molded in such a way.

Those we admire, are the ones we hold up with such high regards, the ones that we look to for guidance and are slowly molded in such a manner to which they’ve helped shaped us to be. Look at those who you admire, you will start to see the likeness between you and them, and then you see that you are molded in the ways of your role models.

Tales of a Nomadic Writer

ebc3839042d002767bab811246240eac

From the moment I was born, I’ve always been independent. My parents, teachers, and the rest of my relatives have always known this, they had known that I was the little introverted independent one of my immediate family. On top of that, they all knew that I was a little bit more different from the family by another factor, being a nomad. Besides actually being a descendant of nomads, my soul and heart has always led me to the next place that I would call my current home and stay there for a period of time to learn what I needed to learn, and write what has inspired me in that place.

Staying in one place for a long time tends to make me feel lost and depressed, that is because I have been engulfed by the sensation of hiareth (to make the definition short “to find a place that I can truly call home”), and engulfed by the sensation of the world to travel it, and explore every inch of it. Thankfully my jobs allow me to travel and explore, while I help others. Being a nomad is nothing to be ashamed of, in fact, I think it is a great thing. Because exploring the world, experiencing new places and things, all the while helping others, is one of the most amazing things to do in this day and age. On top that, I think that living a life of working 9 to 5 jobs till the day I die is not what life is about. Life is more than just about a paycheck and more than the materialistic things that we lug around. The way I see it, is that life is about making memories, learning from experiences, understanding this earth that we live on by exploring every crevice on it, and enjoy the wonder that is this Universe. To me, that is what we should be doing in our lives.

Don’t you want to settle down or have kids? The most common question that I get on a regular basis. Yes I do want to settle down, and yes I would love to have kids. However, I don’t believe that I have to give up my lifestyle to have either of those. I can settle down and get married, then have kids, all the while traveling to new places. I have a few friends who have done it and they are still traveling around the world with their families, that is the lifestyle that I want. I would want my children to learn not only in a classroom setting, but also would want them to learn from their worldly experiences.

Being a nomad, and living the lifestyle is not scary at all. In fact, it is exhilarating. Because I never know what beautiful scenery I will come across, or what I will learn. That is just who I am.

A New Chapter in Our Books

4a485ddf43f4a0d821167b35005a42e2

Every year begins a new chapter of our life, and also at the same time, new events become a brand new chapter in our lives as well. We as humans, change. Our jobs change, our scenery changes. And all of this has started the next chapter that we are about to embark on.

For the most part, everyone is a little nervous yet excited at the same time when a new chapter in their own lives begins. And we have every right to feel this way, it is normal. These new chapters bring about new adventures, new romance, new breaks in the path of ours that we are meant to take for a period of time; it is part of our life. These chapters are to show us our growth as we read through the book of our own lives. And when we reach our 80’s, our books will be presented to our grandchildren and great-grandchildren through photographs, journals, clippings.

2016 was rough for all of us, let us be honest for a moment, yet that was a chapter in all of our lives that we had lived through. It had taught us so much about who we are as an individual, and also as a society. Now, here we are in 2017, only two weeks in, and we are being granted this new chapter of our lives of growth in every aspect. Many of us are going to embark on new adventures in this new chapter of our book, some may go to new states or countries, others might be welcoming an addition into their families, and others might break away from a job to start a new one that is meant for them. All of these adventures are about to begin for everyone.

Don’t be afraid of this chapter that is being presented to you, it might seem daunting, but in reality, it is going to be a fun bumpy ride that you will be able to tell when you are older to your great-grandchildren or nieces and nephews.

Healing From the Core: Journaling

8699c0999f7229a351fa565356d9fba8

When it comes to healing oneself, it can be rather difficult to find something that you can vent to about your emotions, struggles, and the things that are plaguing your mind. However, most people overlook the one thing that they could do to help them vent productively in a non-violent manner, journaling.

Yes, it sounds a little strange for adults to be journaling, especially since the prime demographic is young teenaged girls and boys; however, there are plenty of adults who journal. In fact, I am one of those adults. I journal several times a week, my journal has become a book filled with different things from my meditation sessions that I just went through, my dreams, and overall, just my emotions in general. It helps me figuring things out on paper, and it truly helps, especially after I’ve written what I need to write down, I can look back and see what symbolic thing that is going on in my life at the time.

Journaling is one of the most therapeutic ways of dealing with everyday stress and just life in general. You can pour yourself out on pages among pages, without the fear of judgment or ridicule. In a way, journaling is a therapist that you can vent to about all of your problems, and just dive into what you are truly feeling. It can help you come to terms with a lot of things that you are dealing with internally, while also helping you deal with your past that you seem to be running from.

I’ve always believed that you need a journal that you resonate with, something that you feel connected to. This is due to the fact that you will be sharing your most intimate thoughts, feelings, and dreams to. So the picking the right journal will help you along in the process of healing. There are many places that you can go to find a journal from your local stores to online shopping, finding a journal that you feel comfortable writing in and venting to is highly important.

And do not worry what others will say if they ever find out that you journal, there is nothing wrong with it at all. In fact, it is perfectly normal to journal at any age.

In Mysterious Ways

aeeb1a2933be3b6fa96bb420a0bb018e

The world works in mysterious ways, this saying has been around for quite some time and in all honesty, it certainly does work in mysterious ways. There are so many different times in our lives that each and every one of us will encounter specific block roads in our lives and then see the other door, per se, of where we are meant to be next. This can happen in every aspect of our lives from career, to love, to our own spiritual growth. And for most, this can be terrifying, due to the reason that some of us are terrified of things either not going the way we want it to or terrified by the fact that the very thing we are wanting is actually happening.

There are signs that make there appearance in our lives, to show us what will be happening and where we will lead us (not always clear, but it does give us hints). For the most part, most people tend to not even realize that these are signs and they just wave them away thinking that they are just a nuisance. In reality, when you begin to see the signs appear over and over again, that is when you need to realize that this is what is going to happen. The Universe is trying to help you in so many ways, and for the most part, its way is usually pretty subtle. It could be various little hints such as interview positions in a specific location, or it could be that gut feeling that you keep having about a specific person, or it could even be the 11:11 sign that most people see on a daily basis. These hints are here to guide you and they are here to help you get back onto the path that has been laid out for you.

When it comes to someone receiving signs, it can happen in different ways for each person. One person might receive the sign as 11:11 over and over again, or they might the hints through what they have heard slip from someone’s mouth or even from the radio. Another person might get a sensation rushing through their entire being and a whiff of a flowery perfume-like aroma may fill the air around them, and that aroma may give them a hint as to what is about to change in their life. Everyone is different, just the like how the Universe is different for everyone when they are trying to communicate back and forth.

The Universe is truly a unique mysterious place that holds the magic to our lives and how it tries to help us through our every day lives. Don’t take it for granted when the Universe tries to help you through the various hints it gives you, for those hints can help you learn what you are supposed to learn, and make it through this lifetime safely.
