Middle of Nowhere (Poem)

b542cc239f883a4f03185aef0e9e3108

In a diner in the middle of nowhere
I’ve found myself listening to the desert wind,
howling and screaming begging to come in
as I stare at the menu trying to select a meal.

Sitting by the window people glance on in,
wondering what could be held inside this old beat up diner
that’s placed in the middle of nowhere.
A lost soul that has been traveling the lonely roads
a broken heart that is in need of some repairs wandered into the middle of nowhere,
looking for a place to call home for the night,
even if it is inside an old beat up diner in the middle of nowhere.

Drenching Yourself in Colors: Telling Society to Back off

Processed with VSCOcam with lv01 preset

We live in a society where it seems that to be your true self is the worst thing a person can do. That if we were to pursue our passions, we could be considered an outcast, that if we wanted to dress the way we want or do whatever we wish to our hair, we would be ostracized. Why? Why should someone feel as though they are an outcast for following their passions and dreams, why should someone be labeled freak, odd, eccentric, for being true to themselves? Why should society dictate how someone thinks, feels, and looks? In all honesty, it shouldn’t.

For thousands and thousands of years, people have constantly felt ostracized for being themselves, for not fitting into the mold that society has created. It seems as though society just wants every man, woman, and child to be the same lifeless robotic shape with no mind of its own and just rely on the opinion of others. However, once someone has stepped away from the social norms that has been dictated all hell breaks loose. Families disown that member of the family for not being “normal”, society shuns that person just as the family did, labels get placed on an individual, leaving an individual all alone and feeling as though they are worthless and at that point they begin to feel the pressure of fitting into the mold that has been created by society.

Not fitting into the mold that has been placed before us by society is invigorating, breathtaking, and it gives us a chance to feel and be free from the social norms. Who wouldn’t want to be free? Free to make your own decisions, to go off and study whatever you want in college or not even go to college at all and just travel the world, or to dye your hair an outrageous color, have a tattoo or piercing that you’ve always wanted.

Let me tell you, to step away from society and do your own thing is the best thing that you could ever do. Saying “screw you” to society will be the best thing you will ever do in your life, for you will finally be in control of yourself and of your life,¬†for you are no mindless robot, you are a human being with a mind, a heart, and a soul that yearns for freedom to be yourself. Isn’t that what you wanted?

Tales of a Nomadic Writer

ebc3839042d002767bab811246240eac

From the moment I was born, I’ve always been independent. My parents, teachers, and the rest of my relatives have always known this, they had known that I was the little introverted independent one of my immediate family. On top of that, they all knew that I was a little bit more different from the family by another factor, being a nomad. Besides actually being a descendant of nomads, my soul and heart has always led me to the next place that I would call my current home and stay there for a period of time to learn what I needed to learn, and write what has inspired me in that place.

Staying in one place for a long time tends to make me feel lost and depressed, that is because I have been engulfed by the sensation of hiareth (to make the definition short “to find a place that I can truly call home”), and engulfed by the sensation of the world to travel it, and explore every inch of it. Thankfully my jobs allow me to travel and explore, while I help others. Being a nomad is nothing to be ashamed of, in fact, I think it is a great thing. Because exploring the world, experiencing new places and things, all the while helping others, is one of the most amazing things to do in this day and age. On top that, I think that living a life of working 9 to 5 jobs till the day I die is not what life is about. Life is more than just about a paycheck and more than the materialistic things that we lug around. The way I see it, is that life is about making memories, learning from experiences, understanding this earth that we live on by exploring every crevice on it, and enjoy the wonder that is this Universe. To me, that is what we should be doing in our lives.

Don’t you want to settle down or have kids? The most common question that I get on a regular basis. Yes I do want to settle down, and yes I would love to have kids. However, I don’t believe that I have to give up my lifestyle to have either of those. I can settle down and get married, then have kids, all the while traveling to new places. I have a few friends who have done it and they are still traveling around the world with their families, that is the lifestyle that I want. I would want my children to learn not only in a classroom setting, but also would want them to learn from their worldly experiences.

Being a nomad, and living the lifestyle is not scary at all. In fact, it is exhilarating. Because I never know what beautiful scenery I will come across, or what I will learn. That is just who I am.

A New Chapter in Our Books

Every year begins a new chapter of our life, and also at the same time, new events become a brand new chapter in our lives as well. We as humans, change. Our jobs change, our scenery changes. And all of this has started the next chapter that we are about to embark on.

For the most part, everyone is a little nervous yet excited at the same time when a new chapter in their own lives begins. And we have every right to feel this way, it is normal. These new chapters bring about new adventures, new romance, new breaks in the path of ours that we are meant to take for a period of time; it is part of our life. These chapters are to show us our growth as we read through the book of our own lives. And when we reach our 80’s, our books will be presented to our grandchildren and great-grandchildren through photographs, journals, clippings.

2016 was rough for all of us, let us be honest for a moment, yet that was a chapter in all of our lives that we had lived through. It had taught us so much about who we are as an individual, and also as a society. Now, here we are in 2017, only two weeks in, and we are being granted this new chapter of our lives of growth in every aspect. Many of us are going to embark on new adventures in this new chapter of our book, some may go to new states or countries, others might be welcoming an addition into their families, and others might break away from a job to start a new one that is meant for them. All of these adventures are about to begin for everyone.

Don’t be afraid of this chapter that is being presented to you, it might seem daunting, but in reality, it is going to be a fun bumpy ride that you will be able to tell when you are older to your great-grandchildren or nieces and nephews.
